Kitchen Update

Here is the kitchen before major demo.  It had weird angled walls that closed in the kitchen and wasted precious space.

Kitchen with cabinets and doorwayWe removed the cabinets and kitchen island.  The cabinets were so cheap and installed so weird, most of them were destroyed, but I do have a LOT of solid oak doors for sale.

Our friend, Dave, closed in the doorway (see picture above).  There were 3 entrances into the kitchen- goodbye Doorway #3.

Kitchen no cabinets 1 less doorDave also removed the angled wall that used to have the refrigerator on it.  That wall has been straightened out.  (Gross note- the fridge leaked underneath for so long, the subfloor and drywall was moldy and the floor was still wet- hence the wood putty to even out the floor eventually.)

The plan is to use the old enamel sink rescued from the 1906 farmhouse that was burned, and find used cabinets to run on both sides of the kitchen.

The stove (left hand side) and sink (right hand side) won’t move.  My mom is nagging (please stop Mom!) to move the refrigerator from the unsheetrocked area (left hand side).

I’m thinking maybe it would fit near the doorway of the kitchen, but my mind is too full to think of this now.  Plus the layout would depend of what cabinets I’m able to score.

Do you know of a good place to find solid wood cabinets that could be painted?  I researched online and found ReStore and Uncle Benny’s in Denver.  I see a trip to visit the relatives in Colorado in my future…

  1. First of all I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick
question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to find out
how you center yourself and clear your head before writing.
I’ve had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas
out there. I truly do enjoy writing however it just
seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just trying to figure out
how to begin. Any recommendations or tips?

    • Thanks for the comments!

As far as clearing my head, I live in the middle of no-where and have a lot of windshield time (with no radio and just my thoughts). I usually draft a copy in my head for a day or two. So really, your 10-15 minutes of pre-planning your blog is probably better 🙂
