With tons and tons and tons of sunflowers! The hills shine as if they are covered with gold.
I have never in my life seen the hills YELLOW instead of green. I find beauty in bobbing round faces of the sunflowers and the yellow shine in the distance. Beauty for the eyes, but little nutritional value in the annual sunflower stalks for the cattle, but they do make good residual (or rainstoppers- keeps the soil from washing away).
I feel sorry for everyone with allergies, because this year has to be a real bugger. The mule is yellow with pollen after driving through the pastures.
And then I wonder in the wild mouse population will explode with all those sunflower seeds laying around this winter… Or will the birds just become obese from the over abundance of seeds…
