Our new addition has arrived! My 18 year old buckskin mare was pulled from the stud on August 6th. Horses have a 11 month gestation period, so she should have had the colt on July 6th (also my brother’s wedding day and grandad’s birthday).
Instead she put us through more waiting, and waiting, and waiting… But it was worth it. The fresh addition was born on July 10th. A sorrel (red) stud (boy) colt with a small star and white feet.
He was feeling pretty frisky when we checked water. So thirsty!
Everyone was getting a drink. The calf behind the horses was drinking milk from his mom’s udder.
He has a good mother, who stayed between me and her colt. She was protective. The colt had other ideas and run around his mom. Wow- what is that? (It’s me taking pictures of his cuteness.)
The day was hot. The mare drank for several minutes.
And the colt mimicked his mom and pretended to drink too.
And then it was time to go.
